Gorumara National Park

Of all the wildlife sanctuaries in North Bengal, Gorumara has been topping the popularity list for a long time now. With an animal population comprising species such as the elephant (who rules this part of the world), the Great Indian One-horned Rhino, Indian bison, Cheetal, Sambar, Barking deer, leopard and other cats like the civet, wild boar, the Indian wild dog and Indian wolf... spotting animals here is an easy game.

Things to see and do

Gorumara NP is off NH31, which connects Sevoke to Cooch Behar and Assam via Chalsa and Lataguri. Lataguri is the entry point to Gorumara and a Nature Interpretation Centre is run by the Forest Department here. The state Tourism and Forest Departments have organised the park well for visitors. There are a number of watchtowers inside the jungle and you can go on safaris.

The watchtowers

Gorumara has four watchtowers. If you are not staying inside the forest, you have to book your trip from the Lataguri Nature Interpretation Centre.
Jatraprasad Watchtower and Rhino Observation Point are near the Gorumara Forest Camp. Chandrachur Watchtower is near the Murti forest Bungalow. Because of its location near a watering hole, the Chukchuki Bird watching point is particularly popular with species who fly and people who love watching them.

Safaris

The Forest Department organises Jeep and elephant safaris to the forest. You can also take your own car inside with permission and a mandatory guide assigned by the department.
